Call for Volunteers for the SB 1193 Human Trafficking Community on April 5
Last week, the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women sent out 687 letters to businesses in San Francisco, informing them of their obligation under SB 1193 to post an anti-human trafficking notice, and included a copy of the poster.
Shared by Tahitia Dean: Fundraiser for De Anza High School in Richmond
Tahitia Dean, Law Academy Instructor at De Anza High School, needs your support in raising $20,000, to send about 16 students at $2500 each to go on the trip. Most of the students are impoverished, have never been on an airplane or left Richmond. An experience like this will forever change the perspective and world view of these students.
This program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most of our De Anza students to experience the transformative power of learning in our global classroom.
The activities planned are as follows:
- Day 1: Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean Memorial
- Day 2: Alexandria, Mount Vernon, White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Institution, FDR Memorial, MLK Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Pentagon Memorial and the Kennedy Center
- Day 3: WWII Memorial, Capitol Hill Grounds, Chinatown, Little Italy, Rockefeller Center and Empire State Building Observatory
- Day 4: Live taping of the Today Show, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Central Park, Fifth Avenue Walk, Times Square, Broadway Show
- Day 5: Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street and the Financial District, National 9/11 Memorial
Ideally, De Anza High School would love law firms or businesses to donate $2500-$5000, or sponsor one or two students. Small amounts of $10, $20, $50 are also welcomed and appreciated as every dollar brings us closer to the goal.

Support SF's Favorite Charity at the Taffeta Tea
The Princess Project is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses and accessories to high school teens who cannot otherwise afford them. Founded in 2002, they have proudly served more than 20,000 teens through their three chapters in San Francisco, San Diego and Silicon Valley, and have recently been named "San Francisco's Favorite Charity 2013" in a community poll sponsored by 7x7 magazine and PG&E.
On April 13, they're hosting the annual Taffeta Tea fundraiser in San Francisco at Terra Gallery. Attendees will enjoy an afternoon tea, bid on silent auction items and hear heartwarming stories about the impact the organization has made on California youth over the past 12 years.
Tickets are $100 individually or $900 for a table of 10; tea sponsorship packages are also available starting at $250.
